FAQ for Residential Designers

FAQ

  • What services do you offer as a Residential Designer?

    Answer:

As a residential designer, I offer construction blueprints for custom homes, barndominiums, additions, and remodels. The blueprints include the site plan, floor plan, elevations, electrical, foundation, the provided truss design, and the stamped engineering; all in a printed and digital copy. Energy sheets can also be provided.

  • How do you approach designing a home?

    Answer:

I begin by understanding the client’s preferences, lifestyle, functional needs, and long-term goals. I focus on creating a space that reflects their style while ensuring it is practical. My design process includes conceptual drawings and collaborating with architects and contractors to ensure the vision is realized.

  • What are some design trends you see in the Greater Pensacola area?

    Answer:

In the Greater Pensacola area, I’m seeing a growing trend toward coastal-inspired designs with an emphasis on natural light, open floor plans, and materials that reflect the area’s natural beauty—such as wood, stone, and neutral tones. There’s also an increased focus on sustainability and energy efficiency, which is important in our climate.

  • Do you work with contractors and builders?

    Answer:

Yes, I frequently collaborate with local contractors and builders. In addition, I also work with engineers. I believe in working as a team to ensure that the design is executed perfectly. I can recommend trusted professionals in the Pensacola area or work with the ones you already have in place.

  • How do you incorporate sustainability into your designs?

    Answer:

Sustainability is an important part of my work. In the Pensacola area, it’s also important to consider designs that are resilient to coastal weather conditions and that minimize environmental impact. Insurance rates are also a factor to be considered when designing a home.

  • Can you help with the design of a home renovation or addition?

    Answer:

Absolutely! Whether it’s a kitchen remodel, a new master suite, or adding square footage to your home, I specialize in designing renovations and additions. I’ll help you visualize the space with 3D renderings and provide a detailed design plan that works seamlessly with the existing structure.

  • What’s the difference between an architect and a residential designer?

    Answer:

While architects focus on the structural integrity and building systems, a residential designer like myself focuses on the aesthetics, layout, and functionality of interior and exterior spaces. I create designs that are both beautiful and functional but work alongside architects and engineers when structural changes are needed. I collaborate with an engineer/architect during the drafting process. An engineer provides his stamped  and sealed work.

  • How do you ensure the design stays within budget?

    Answer:

Budgeting is a priority in my design process. I work with clients and their general contractor to establish a clear budget from the start and ensure that the design choices align with it.

  • Do you offer 3D renderings or virtual tours of designs?

    Answer:

Yes! I can offer 3D renderings and sometimes virtual tours to help clients visualize the design before it’s built. This allows you to get a realistic feel for the space and make any adjustments before construction begins

  • How long does a typical design project take from start to finish?

    Answer:

The timeline depends on the complexity of the project. A simple home design or renovation may take 4-8 weeks, while larger projects can take longer. I’ll always keep clients informed of progress throughout the process. The most unpredictable element of the timetable is the length of time the truss company takes to design the trusses.

Another factor in determining how long the process takes is the complexity of any changes the client might request during the process. If a client changes his or her mind, this does not add to the fee unless in most circumstances. This is part of the natural process of designing a client’s dream home.
